Club History

In December 1921, 15 local businessman and professionals met to plan the creation of LaFayette Country Club. They acquired 106 acres of land and a six-hole golf course was planned. The course was designed by Bellevue Country Club’s former professional, Bill Entwistle, and built by architect Seymour Dunn. After two years of construction, the six-hole course was completed.

As time passed, LaFayette acquired additional land and rebuilt the course several times. Today, the 18-hole golf course, five practice greens, Olympic sized swimming pool and wading pool, two tennis courts, clubhouse, maintenance buildings and additional support buildings sit on 155 acres of land.

In February of l988, a devastating fire completely destroyed the clubhouse. During the 1988 season, a temporary clubhouse was erected to serve as a shelter for members and guests. On Memorial Day weekend, 1989, the new 28,000 square foot clubhouse opened. It offers one of the most spectacular views in Central New York and boasts exceptional dining facilities. Additional facilities include luxurious locker rooms, pro shop and club storage, card room and administrative offices.

In l994 the decision was made to completely replace the swimming pool facilities. Two new swimming pools were built along with new restrooms, upgraded locker rooms and snack bar facilities.
